The Process
Most people have little experience with alterations and the process we use to ensure your clothes fit correctly. Never fear! I'm here to explain and answer any questions you might have. The process is similar with any item you need to have fitted. See below for important information.*
1. Schedule a convenient appointment. Ensure you have enough time as fittings may take longer than expected.
2. On appointment day, be sure to eat and stay hydrated. The idea that eating will make your outfit not fit is a myth. Not eating can lead to sickness or blackouts.

3. Before coming to the appointment, make sure you have everything you need for your fitting. These include shoes, outfit, undergarments, accessories, belt, etc. For example, a woman needs to have a wedding gown fitted but does not bring her undergarments (bra, underwear, slip, etc.). I may not be able to do the fitting. Undergarments (especially the specific bra) will change the way the garment fits. For hemming trousers, it's imperative to have the correct shoes. Otherwise, I cannot ensure the appropriate length.

4. Please arrive 5 minutes early. If you are going to be more than 10 minutes late, you may have to reschedule.

5. Feel free to bring a friend or family member. Keep in mind that I have a sewing studio with sharp tools, pins, needles, and scissors. If you need to bring your small child, make sure someone can sit with him/her to stay safe.

6. The time it takes to do a fitting depends on the item and alterations needed. I use an average of 30 minutes for non-clothing, simple, or repair items, 45 minutes for dresses, and 1-2 hours for wedding gowns. Feel free to bring multiple items but remember to adjust the time for them.

7. If you need a break at any time during the fitting, please speak up. I always have water on hand and places to sit.

8. We will discuss what needs to be addressed. I'll write it up and begin to place pins as needed, while offering alternatives.

9. After the pinning, you leave the garment, which will stay with me until the job is complete. We will review what needs to be done once more. You will pay for your alterations up front, and then we'll set a date and time for pick up. (Usually 2 weeks out, 4 weeks for complicated items or wedding gowns.) I can usually accommodate rush jobs and work with your schedule.

10. Return on the date of your appointment. You'll try on the garment. You should be able to take it home unless further alterations are necessary. If adjustments need to be made, I will schedule a 3rd appointment.

Please note: I offer one round of revisions for free. If you want different alterations or have changed size, shoes, etc., additional fees may be incurred.

Feel free to call, email or text with any questions. Thanks!
*Please note that I cannot work on any items that have come in contact with cats or come from a cat home. No exceptions. I am violently allergic. Also, make sure the items you bring have been cleaned.

Be aware that I cannot offer time frames or prices without seeing the item and how it fits. What someone thinks is the issue may not be the case. For example, a woman thinks she needs a hem on her dress, when in fact, it may be that the straps are too long. Once the straps are shortened, the dress might be the perfect length. One simple fix can save time and money.
